My name is Ellie Munro, and I am currently studying for a PhD in social policy at the University of Birmingham.
My research looks at how the local voluntary sector has developed in Birmingham, from 1965 to 2015. It compares this to national-level histories and policy developments, and sets it within a frame of changing field dynamics – including how do organisations relate to one another, what makes a difference to how they work, and how do they react to changing environments.
Before starting my PhD, I worked for a range of charities in different areas, including children’s rights, disability and voluntary sector infrastructure. I volunteer for a number of projects on community support and women’s rights.
